After you pass - step 2 and 3
How to Send Your NASCLA Score to a State Board
Updated September 2026
You passed. The score report in your hand is real - but no state board can see it yet. The NASCLA exam works through an electronic transcript that you buy and NASCLA delivers. Here is the whole process, with the numbers straight from nascla.org.
The numbers
Step by step
- Create an account at ned.nascla.org using the exact name you tested under. If the names differ, the link will not happen and you will be emailing NASCLA support.
- Wait. PSI uploads results within 72 hours; NASCLA then links them to your account within 48-72 business hours. NASCLA's own estimate is 5-6 business days total.
- Buy one transcript per board. Pick the agency from the list, pay $45, done. Applying in two states means two transcripts.
- Apply to the board. The transcript only tells the board you passed the trade exam. Everything else - the application, the financial proof, the business-and-law exam - is still on you.
The two-year clock most people miss
Your score never expires. But the transcript is only visible to the board for two years from the day you bought it. If life gets in the way and you are not licensed in that state within two years, the board can no longer see the transcript and you buy it again. So do not buy transcripts for states you are merely thinking about - buy them when you are ready to file.
A few boards also set their own limit on how old a passing score can be when you apply. Our state guides note the ones we could verify; when in doubt, ask the board before you buy.
What the score report letter is for
The printed score report from the testing center is your official personal proof that you passed - NASCLA says so directly. Keep it. Some boards ask to see it alongside the electronic transcript, and it is the only document you hold if the NED account ever gives you trouble.
Next: the state still has its own checklist
Every NASCLA state runs its own application, and thirteen of them still require a separate business-and-law exam. Our state guides spell out what each board wants after the transcript arrives.
